Dental visits
Oral care remains one of the most unmet healthcare needs among children, especially for those with sensory challenges or special needs. Many dental providers feel unprepared or uncomfortable treating this population, and families often face additional hurdles—such as difficulties transitioning from pediatric to adult dental care.
Parents may also carry their own dental anxieties, shaped by past experiences or fear of the unknown, which can add to the stress. Children, in turn, may feel overwhelmed by the sensory environment of a dental office—bright lights, loud sounds, unfamiliar tastes and textures—all of which can trigger discomfort or even meltdowns. These experiences are common and understandable, and they highlight the importance of creating a more supportive and adaptable dental environment for every child.
Oral Home Care
Healthy teeth don’t just depend on twice-a-year dental visits—they rely heavily on daily care at home. For young children, this means parents play a crucial role in brushing their child’s teeth every day. In fact, it’s recommended that parents assist with brushing until around age 10. Consistent brushing not only helps prevent cavities but also makes dental visits smoother and less stressful.
However, for children who are sensitive to sound, touch, or even taste, daily brushing can be especially challenging. These sensory sensitivities can make it difficult for parents to follow typical dental advice, even when they’re doing their best.
That’s why our mission is to help families create realistic, personalized oral care routines tailored to each child’s sensory needs. Together, we can turn those frustrating “ahhhh!” moments into empowering “ah-ha!” moments.

Our Goal
For Families: Easing Into Dental Visits
Preparing your child for a dental visit can make a world of difference. Helping them understand what to expect—through visual supports, story-based apps, or social stories—can reduce fear and build confidence. Desensitization strategies, both at home and in partnership with dental professionals, can also help children gradually become more comfortable with the sights, sounds, and sensations of the dental environment. With the right tools and support, dental visits can feel less overwhelming and more manageable for the whole family.
